Colonial Descriptions of Buddhist Healing Activities

Deadline: 1 Oct 2017

Editor: Dr C. Pierce Salguero (Penn State University)

An anthology for Columbia University Press that collects texts about Buddhism’s relationship with healthcare/medicine/healing in the early modern and modern periods. This volume will focus on accounts of Buddhist healing from the colonial context — descriptions of Buddhist healing or medicinals written by missionaries or colonial authorities, for example, or other European-language texts on the subject written by western observers.

If you are interested in participating in this project, the editor is looking for accessible translations of any length (anywhere from 1 up to 20 pages) that are accompanied by an introduction of 1000 words maximum. The full translation will be due in early 2018, with the introduction due beforehand in Oct 2017.
