Travel, Tourism and the Northeast Identity (NEPCA 2017) (University of Massachusetts, Amherst: 27-28 October 2017)

Deadline: 30 May 2017

The Northeast Popular/American Culture Society (NEPCA) is seeking paper proposals on the intersections between travel, tourism, regional identity and culture for its annual conference.

Possible topics include:

* How regions are portrayed on television, movies, and song
* Regional tropes in literature
* Is regionalism a contributing factor in the "disuniting" of the United States?
* Myth and reality is regional identity
* Tourism and social class
* Gender and/or ethnic identity and tourism
* Branding and regional identity
* Tourism as an industry
* Destination tourism

Proposals do not need to have Northeast themes, nor do they have to be restricted to topics relating to the United States.
